TORTOISE VOCAB… “OSSIFICATION:” DID YOU KNOW?
February 15, 2022Did you know…. that the top shell of the desert tortoise, known as the carapace, takes about 5-8 years to reach full ossification (hardening of the shell)? During these first several years they are very vulnerable to various predators, including ravens, coyotes, kit fox, badgers, gila monsters, roadrunners, snakes and more.
