Authorized Biologists from SNEI have performed countless
preliminary surveys and site assessments. As USFWS & BLM Authorized Biologists
at SNEI are expertly trained to gather, analyze
and disseminate information regarding biological
species and ecological communities for private,
public, state and federal clients.
Our professionals are highly qualified in conducting
a variety of environmental surveys, including
presence and absence, botanical, reptile, amphibian,
avian, small mammal, fish and creel.
Species List for Permitted Biological
Surveys
SNEI's uniquely qualified Authorized Biologists to perform
surveys on threatened, endangered and sensitive
species, as well as federal or state-listed species
of concern. Following U.S. Fish and Wildlife,
Bureau of Land Management, Department of Fish
and Game, and other federal and state protocols,
we are permitted and qualified to conduct project-specific
surveys on a wide variety of species.
Presence and
Absence Surveys
The determination of sensitive species
presence can have a significant effect on project
approval or continuation, the equipment needed
and project duration. Our experienced and highly
qualified personnel conduct presence and absence
surveys to assist with legal compliance issues
and scientific research. The documentation of
species also provides valuable information to
local, state and federal agencies, so proper mitigation
and management of sensitive species and their
ecosystems can be preserved.
Reptile and Amphibian Surveys
SNEI employs experienced herpetologists
who provide accurate and detailed habitat information
regarding amphibian and reptile populations. SNEI’s
biological staff can construct, install and survey
drift fences and

of reptiles and amphibians. Mark-recapture studies
are used to aid researchers in obtaining natural
history data (e.g. natural movements, habitat
selection, growth rates and longevity) to determine
densities and population parameters. |

| Migratory
Bird and Indigenous Avian Surveys
SNEI has a long history of providing
assistance in the development of national migratory
bird habitat plans, as well as technical experience
in conducting surveys within the Southwest region
in accordance with the Migratory Bird Treaty Act
and the Endangered Species Act. SNEI can provide
a wide variety of surveys of threatened, endangered
and sensitive birds. Our staff of qualified biologists
is experienced at conducting avian surveys within
riparian wetlands, proposed right-of-way corridors
and zone-of-influence areas to determine the presence
of indigenous or migratory birds. |

Small
Mammal Surveys
SNEI services include live trapping of
both sensitive and non-sensitive species to investigate
relationships between habitat features, small
mammal relative abundance and diversity. SNEI
utilizes species identification, sex, age, class,

implantation, ear tagging, health assessments,
breeding conditions, mark-recapture studies
and tracking with fluorescent dyes and lights
to aid in formulating management plans for
small mammals, including bats, within the
Southwest region. |

Fisheries
and Aquatic Surveys
SNEI fisheries biologists have
conducted numerous sensitive and non-sensitive
related fisheries studies. Our fisheries
research, assessment and management services
include standard netting and seining, mark-recapture
sampling, creel and electroshock surveys
and invertebrate indicator surveys, as well
as database development and reporting for
fish and related ecological studies.
